Portcullis Gate Automation Risk Assessment

Risk assessments can be specifically undertaken but it is normally a part of the general Portcullis Gate Automation site survey, a feature for every job or tender undertaken and standard practice for our company.

During a risk assessment we survey access areas for risks to pedestrians and especially children of any crushing, dragging, trapping, cutting or shearing hazards. Depending on our findings we may advise extra safety equipment such as lower voltage motors that can detect objects and instantly reverse as a precautionary measure.

As an electric gate company compliance with both the Machinery Directive and health and safety recommendations as set out by the Health and Safety Executive are at the very core of our business. Our specialist equipment includes, force test meters to measure the force an automated gate is generating when approaching an obstruction, such as a wall, and the point at which it reverses itself. Adjustments can then be made to the gate motor so that compliance is adhered to; i.e. the electric gate only generates a specified amount of force and reverses within a specified timeframe to comply with the Machinery Directive.
