It’s late November, granted, but it probably is finally time for you to start thinking about your Christmas decorations. As many fight for the nicest looking indoor and outdoor Christmas tree this holiday season, we at Portcullis spend our time thinking about how best to decorate our electric gates. So, with this in mind, we’ve come up with some of the most quaint, tacky and festive ways to decorate the entrance to your home this holiday season.
Probably the most traditional of all Christmas decorations, the wreath actually has a rich history and symbolises a lot more than just Christmas. Used in all sorts of ceremonial events across the globe, the wreath is usually made from evergreens which means strength but was used in Greek times to show wealth and position. Now, they can be seen on doors and gates all over the world, and we think they’re a lovely addition to any front gate.
Tinsel has become a huge staple of our holiday decoration, it can be seen draped over trees everywhere and despite it’s history has become an almost tacky product. Invented in 1610, tinsel was invented in Nuremberg by draping strands of silver, since the silver tarnished quickly they substituted other metals – tinsel as we know it was born. It can be a very easy and cheap thing to get a hold of to decorate your electric gates as well as being very simple to add to any design.
Instead of simpling adding decoration to your gate, how about taking the holiday season into consideration when designing and creating the type of electric gate you want. It seems strange now, but imagine the time and money you’ll save by not having to add some extra decor to your front gate every Christmas, not to mention the cold nights you avoid changing light bulbs and such. Designing your own gate is very easy to do and something we here at Portcullis encourage.
Christmas lights are arguably one of the prettiest ways to decorate any part of your house, as long as it’s not overdone of course. They can be as simple and classic or bright and colourful as you like – a great way of expressing your love of the most magical time of the year. It’s important to keep in mind the practicality of your electric gate though, remember they still need to open and work correctly so don’t go putting the straight across the top of your gate!
